Conway Wins Race 2 in Toronto

The long, crazy weekend in Toronto ended this afternoon as Mike Conway took the checkered flag in the second race. There was plenty of strategy that came into play, but it was Conway that made the right call, and held on through the changing weather conditions to grab his second win of the season. Tony Kanaan finished on the podium for the second time on Sunday, and Will Power came home in third position.

Helio Castroneves finished in 12th spot, and his lead in the championship over Power was trimmed to 13 points. Roger Penske has to be happy, with two of his drivers at the top of the standings this late into the season. Despite having a horrible day, Ryan Hunter-Reay moved back into third place in the standings, leaping Simon Pagenaud.

It was a great day for Charlie Kimball, who finished seventh and fourth. His teammate Kanaan also had a fantastic Sunday. He finished on the podium in both races, and in his last three races, he has finished third, third, and second.

The plan for Ed Carpenter Racing has been working out great. With four races remaining, the team has already won three races, and the Pole for the Indy 500. Perhaps more teams will take notice, and consider doing something similar.

With the third and final double-header event of 2014 in the books, the season is quickly coming down the home stretch. There are just four races remaining on the schedule. The championship battle is tight, and there are still a handful of drivers in the fight. Up next for IndyCar is the scenic road course at Mid-Ohio, in two weeks. The Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio is August 3, with NBC Sports Network’s race coverage beginning at 3 PM ET.
